What your bank wants to know, and why

Banks have recently started asking for sustainability data when financing. This is what's behind it.

Why the bank is asking

Banks must themselves report on the sustainability of their credit portfolio. They need data from the companies they finance to do this.

So it is rarely a judgment about you. It is their own reporting obligation that cascades down.

What it means for your terms

At some banks it factors into the assessment or the interest discount. At others it is administrative. Ask about it — it makes a difference whether you take it seriously or just fill it in.

What helps in any case: a dated report that you can produce of your own accord, instead of a filled-in list each time.

What you can submit

The same dossier you use for your customers. Build it once, then reuse it — that's the whole idea.

Frequently asked questions

Will I get a lower interest rate if I do this well?

That varies by bank and by product. We make no promises about it; ask your account manager.

Do I have to do this again every year?

Yes, the data becomes outdated. With a maintained dossier, it is a matter of entering the new annual figures.
